KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – There’s nothing quite like the magic that’s in the air during the holiday season. At The Ritz-Carlton, every day of the month is a magical experience, only made better by the festive offerings they excel at.
You’re pulled into the holiday spirit the moment you step into their lobby. Channel Hansel & Gretel with a life-sized gingerbread house that you can step into to pick up your own bag of cookies.
Teddy Bear Afternoon Tea
The Private Room, 3:00-6:00 pm on 10th December
Adult: RM160 (USD39.23), Child: RM115 (USD28.20)
Their Teddy Bear Afternoon Tea is without doubt the perfect way to ring in the season, especially if you have kids. The Ritz-Carlton has turned the quintessential teddy bear picnic into a posh affair, and it’s no surprise that it’s booked solid every single year.
You’re treated to decadent pastries, scones, and excellent savoury options including quiches, sliders, and Reuben sandwiches. This is THE way to have your cake and eat it, too!
Christmas Eve Dinner
The Library, 7:00-11:00 pm on 24th December
The Library is the perfect venue for a quiet meal, and Christmas Eve is no exception. Make a date of it with the exquisite dishes on the menu.
Start your meal with Tuna Ceviche or Roasted Quail; followed by a choice of Wild Mushroom and Vanilla Bean or Creamy Lobster Soup.
The mains include a choice of Roast Turkey Carvery, Pan-Fried Halibut, or Braised Wagyu Beef Cheek.
Tia Maria and Raspberry Sorbet will be served as a palate cleanser, as well as Christmas Pudding with White Chocolate Parfait for dessert.
Christmas Day Champagne Brunch
The Cobalt Room, 12:00-3:00 pm on 25th December
The highlight of the season’s offerings has to be the Christmas Day Champagne Brunch. We can safely say that The Ritz-Carlton has the best turkey of the season from all those that we’ve sampled.
Seafood lovers will be well catered to with the plethora of options. Our favourite part of this is that the kitchen will de-shell any of your picks. The lobster and bubbly alone are worth going for.
But as we mentioned, the turkey is spot on. Succulent and packed with flavour, it’ll make a convert out of you yet. We’ve never been fans of turkey because it tends to be dry and lacking in flavour, but this has us coveting just another bite.
The real kicker here is that they’ll be serving Yorkshire Pudding as well! Not only is this welcome, it’s fantastically executed!
Seriously, this brunch has everything including Foie Gras Terrine topped with fruit chutney to balance out how creamy and decadent it is.
You’ll be spoilt for choice with all the desserts on offer as well, so leave room for them.
Nevertheless, it’s the savoury options that shine at the Christmas Brunch.
Kids (and big kids like us who insist on believing in Santa Claus so we can demand more gifts) will be treated to a visit by the man himself, as well as a whole host of activities to give you a chance to indulge in that glass (or two, or three) of bubbly!
Christmas Afternoon Tea
The Lobby Lounge, 3:00-6:00 pm on 24th & 25th December
If you missed out on the Teddy Bear Afternoon Tea, you can still get your bookings in for the Christmas Afternoon Tea. At half the price, it’s also a more budget-friendly option for you to savour The Ritz-Carlton’s festive tea.
Needless to say, it’s spot on, and we’re particularly fond of the savoury options in their tea sets.
We also love that there’s good balance between sweet and savoury options so that you can enjoy every morsel without the sweetness overwhelming you.
New Year’s Eve Dinner
The Library, 7:00-11:00 pm on 31st December
The only party we want to be at this NYE is one where there’s excellent food, and the sit-down option at The Library has us sold.
Start with Roasted Duck Breast or a Warm Lobster Salad. Follow it up with either Broccoli and Stilton Soup or Tomato and Prawn Bouillabaisse.
Vegetarians are catered to as well with their mains. You’ll get a choice of Grilled Wagyu Fillet, Steamed Seabass, or Gnocchi.
Dessert is a must-have: Pistachio and Mango Chantilly with Raspberry Sorbet.
New Year’s Day Roast
The Library, 12:00-3:00 pm on 1st January, 2018
The only thing that could rival their turkey this year is the Roasted Aged Prime Rib and Roasted Leg of Lamb that’s on offer for New Year’s. Also accompanied by Yorkshire Pudding!
We can’t even talk about how good the New Year’s menu is, and just how much we recommend it. As with Christmas, you’ll be treated to a full spread of fresh seafood as well, along with sushi should your heart so desire.
Pretty, and pretty decadent – don’t miss out on the Macaron Tower. We’ve always wanted to be able to pick macarons off a tree, and this is as close as we’re going to get.
Festive Gourmet Packages
From RM500 (USD122.60), Available until 30th December
If you’re entertaining at home, or you’re simply a curmudgeon like we are, The Ritz-Carlton will prepare your meal for you.
All you have to do is plate it and dirty a few dishes of your own to pretend that you made this resplendent meal all on your own.
We’d happily sit at home and eat this Cedar Smoked and Roasted Turkey on our own. No guests needed.
If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll have no problem polishing off this Pumpkin Pie on your own, either. It will give you new resolutions to strive towards in the new year.
The only catch is that you’ll have to order it at least 48 hours in advance. You can thank us later!
