KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – When’s the last time you sat down to play an actual board game? The holiday season is fast approaching, and there’s no better time for ComicPlay 2017 to hit Publika. Between winding down the year and the furious gift shopping, a break from the grind is in order.
From 14-19 November, you’ll find All Aboard with plenty on offer; from painting demos and gaming sessions, to Christmas gift suggestions.
All Aboard Community Gaming Centre
With four years under their belt as a choice hobby destination, the sheer range that All Aboard carries makes this the perfect beginner’s guide to the hobby scene. For most of us, board games stop at Monopoly, Scrabble, and the like; but we’re discovering this week that there’s so much more.
There’s truly something for everyone, and one of the biggest draws is how easy it is to entertain little children with board games instead of the television or phone. In fact, the atmosphere at ComicPlay will entice them to sit down and learn a game/skill or two, which may translate into an off-technology hobby. Win-win? We think so.
The Therapeutic Value of Painting
If you’ve ever seen a game of Warhammer, it’s easy to get swept away by the beauty of the figures and landscape.
Even if you aren’t a fan of strategy gaming, the therapeutic nature of assembling and painting these models is undisputed. The perfect hobby if you’re highly stressed or just need to zone out for a bit.
A few years back, the paints from Games Workshop (creators of Warhammer) were reformulated so they no longer contain lead and acetone making them safe for kids to use without fear of ingestion of toxic fumes. Tip: They’re the perfect acrylics for nail art, too! So it might be worth getting someone in close proximity hooked so you can “borrow” some of their stash.
The Necessity of Competition
Of course, this wouldn’t be an event worth its salt without the ability to actually make someone else cry. For those of us who only play to win, you’ll be able to compete socially or in a Shadespire Tournament (Saturday, 18th November).
Even so, Warhammer encourages sportsmanship with their tournament award structure. Not only is your skill level at the strategy of the game considered, but how good your army looks, as well as your gamesmanship. So really, it’s a game that assures you a good time.
As with what All Aboard offers year round, ComicPlay allows you to try out the games on the spot to get a feel for what you would enjoy. We can’t think of a better gift for Christmas, a housewarming or wedding, because board games are the gifts that keep giving for years.
Pop by over the course of the week and see what catches your fancy. You may discover a new hobby, even if its just decking out a model instead of yourself.
