KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – September was a game changer for the Japanese institution, Shu Uemura. An addition to their iconic cleansing oil range, new shades in their bestselling lipstick line, and a foundation to counter the plethora of mattes on the market.
It’s an electric sort of novelty that’s propelling the brand into a a new era of beauty, and it all starts with their new concept boutique.
The Concept Flagship Boutique
Taking’s its cue from Tokyo, Shu Uemura’s boutique in 1Utama has gotten an upgrade. The revamp did away with the sleek, primarily monochrome facade in favour of an edgier look that’s no doubt aimed at pulling in a younger clientele.
A huge draw to the boutique is just how Instagram-worthy it is. There’s even a sushi-esque conveyor belt!
But nothing tops the over the top. The huge Shu Uemura Atelier Bear decked out in neon lashes is the perfect accessory to your social media needs.
The new concept boutique in 1Utama is the prototype for what we’re going to see from them in the coming years, and we’re excited!
Rouge Unlimited: Revamped
Thirty-eight, new shades of their signature lipstick. Thirty-eight! You get the whole gamut with these: Nudes, corals, reds, burgundies. You’ll find something for your skin tone, and more.
The beautiful, buildable formula along with the signature sleek packaging of Rouge Unlimited (RM95, USD22.48) lipsticks is enough to sell us on this new formulation; it doesn’t hurt that four of them are ‘mixer’ shades.
With two-toned/gradient lips trending this upcoming season, these are the perfect addition to your lip wardrobe. They’re shades that you may not want all over, but they provide a lovely accent to what you’ve got in your kit.
If it’s your first foray into Shu’s range, we highly recommend you start with lips and work your way backwards.
nutri-nectar: Gentle Cleansing Oil in Emulsion
Cleansing oils are finally breaking through into the mainstream, but Shu Uemura is the true pioneer in effortless makeup removal.
The newest addition to the line, nutri:nectar (150ml – RM165, USD39; 450ml – RM360, USD85) is eight years in the making, and is targeted at sensitive skin. It’s an apt release for the 50 year celebration of their star product.
The Lightbulb Essence Foundation
Not to be confused with The Lightbulb Fluid Foundation that hit the market a few years ago; this is a totally new formulation.
The Lightbulb Essence Essential-Oil-in-Foundation (RM210, USD49.70) is targeted towards very dry skin, and those looking for a blinding glow that settles into healthy-looking skin.
With matte foundations taking over the beautysphere at present, it’s nice to see one that caters to those looking for a dewy finish and healthy glow.
Shu Uemura’s new concept boutique can be found at the same location the store has always been in 1Utama:
