It’s been over a decade since we last got together with Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo, Princess of Genovia. Needless to say, we’ve been craving our Princess Diaries fix since then.
Yes, it’s been too long. But it looks like fans of the movies are going to have their prayers answered.
Just two days ago, Anne Hathaway, who played Mia, wished the iconic character a happy Sweet 16th. This is in reference to the year the first movie came out, fanning the flames of third movie rumours.
The Instagram video showed a clip from the first Princess Diaries movie wherein Mia, who was celebrating her birthday, just found out that she was actually the princess of a small, European nation. “You know, most people wish for a car for their 16th birthday, not a country,” Hathaway’s character huffed in the clip.
Before Marshall died, he was also planning the movies’ third installment – with Hathaway. “I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago. It looks like we want to do The Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan,” he told People just months before he died.
Who’s coming back?
Most of the cast seem to be on board as well. Heather Matarazzo, who played royal best friend Lily Moscovitz, has said that she is open to it. So are Chris Pine and our absolute favourite – Julie Andrews. She has publicly admitted that she “would very willingly and happily do it.” We all know a monarch’s words can definitely be taken seriously. And Andrews is definitely royalty.
Oh, and before we forget – even Mandy Moore is down for a cameo.
Here at The Binge, we believe that it is definitely time for a third movie. Especially since there’s already a script. Meg Cabot, author of the Princess Diaries books, has admitted this to Entertainment Weekly.
So, do you think Princess Diaries 3 is really happening? Maybe Netflix will be behind it? They did answer the clamour for a Gilmore Girls revival, after all. Maybe they’ll do it for a movie. Tell us what you think in the comments section below. – The Binge
