KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Half the fun of going on the road is trying local fare. However, that isn’t always an option at the drop of a hat. While we dream of the day where we can drive cross-country trying every conceivable burger a continent can offer, we’ve got the second best thing on hand for now – The World Burger Tour at Hard Rock Cafe KL.
Hard Rock Cafe is known around the world for its excellent menu offerings. Now in its third year running, The World Burger Tour promises to tantalise your tastebuds in bigger and better ways than before.
Every Hard Rock Cafe in each city has its own signature burger, and you guessed it – Malaysia‘s is a rendang (spiced meat) burger! While it isn’t in the lineup of the four promotional burgers this time, it will be available later in the year.
The burgers that are on offer have been selected by a culinary team from out of 160 choices. That’s our dream job right there.
This year’s burgers are an explosive force to be reckoned with. Hailing from Colombia, Vietnam, the USA, and Greece, there’s something for every palate.
The patties in these burgers were exceptional, and were only made better by the innovative toppings. Additionally, the buns used didn’t crumble under the weight of the fillings; which is always the true test of a burger’s structural integrity.
Closest to home, the Banh Mi Burger from Ho Chi Minh mimics the famed Vietnamese bread roll with a mound of fresh vegetables. Practically a salad, this inclusion of vegetables adds some welcome crunch and freshness to the massive beef patty.
The Greek Burger brings a refreshing Mediterranean twist to the burger format. Topped with braised eggplant and a yogurt-based sauce, it’s an absolutely beautiful experience tucking into it. Eggplants aren’t usually welcome at The Binge, but we’re glad we didn’t pick these off.
If you’re an unrepentant carnivore like we are, the Tennessee BBQ Burger is your best bet. Not only do you get a beef patty infused with Memphis dry rub, it’s topped with pulled lamb as well. The crunchiness of the crispy onions complements this sloppy, meaty burger perfectly.
Finally, we arrive at the most interesting destination in our burger tour – the Colombian Plantain Burger. Topped with a sweet and savoury trio of caramelised onions, fried plantains, and turkey bacon; this is a burger that is reminiscent of The Elvis.
As fans of the humble potato, we were pleased to find artisan french fries on offer.
These come with complementary dipping sauces, as well. The Garlic Fries are naturally paired with Garlic Aioli, and the Spiced Curry Fries are served up with a Tandoori Mayonnaise.
Nothing goes better with burgers than a bit of a tipple. Five cocktails are in focus for the World Burger Tour, but of course you can opt for a more traditional pairing of good ol’ beer with your burgers.
If you’re looking for a twist on the traditional, the Hard Rock Cafe’s Triple Platinum Margarita would be a solid choice. Doused in Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila, Cointreau Orange and Grand Marnier, it’s a cocktail you can’t go wrong with.
For something more traditional, the Mojito is a simple option but it’s a drink that runs strong so don’t underestimate what appears to be refreshing and light.
If you’re keen for more elaborate cocktails, consider the Southern Rock (whiskey-based), Hurricane (rum-based), and Electric Blues (vodka, rum, and gin).
Hard Rock Cafe KL’s World Burger tour will run from the 1st of May, 2017 – 25th of June, 2017. -The Binge
