Let’s Talk About the Legends of D Legends

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – In the heart of Taman Tun, we find Legends 2.0 – the revamped gastropub that serves up some of the best comfort food you’re likely to find, as well as an award-winning Tiger pour. In saying this, it was exceedingly difficult to pare our list down to just five must-haves, but try our list and whatever else your gut tells you to when you get there.

For starters, you can’t skip their Pork Belly Rendang with Crispy Crackling (RM23 / USD5.22). As one of their signature dishes, you know you’re in for a treat with the explosion of spices, succulent cubes of pork, and the crunch that the crackling brings to it.

While the Legend’s Pork Pizza is their signature, and exceptional in itself, the English Breakfast Pizza (RM30 / USD6.80) brings a touch of novelty to your pie. It’s certainly one that delivers well with smokey thick-cut bacon, proper sausages, and even an egg right in the middle. All this on a homemade crust? You won’t understand just how good it is until you’ve tried it.

As bacon is the primary food group at The Binge, we strongly approve of how heavily it features on the menu at Legends. Rounding back to Asian fare, what caught us by surprise was the Bacon Overload Fried Rice (RM20 / USD4.54). It was absolutely delicious, and in managing to infuse wok hei (breath of the wok, i.e. smokiness from high heat that is the signature of good Chinese cooking) into the dish, it’s overtaken a vast number of fried rice options found at even some of the most highly rated food stalls out there. If The Binge’s HQ were any closer to Legends, this may end up being lunch for us everyday.

If a Chocolate Brownie (RM12 / USD2.72) sounds good to you, how does a chocolate brownie topped with candied bacon sound? Infinitely better, we agree! And that’s just what you’re getting at Legends. In a rather curious twist, this is actually one of the best brownies we’ve had in Kuala Lumpur. It’s deep, dark, and rich without being cloying. Exceptional in itself, but taken over the edge with the addition of bacon.

It’s all too easy to forget you’re in a pub when you have food of this calibre served up to you, but don’t leave without trying their drinks. As mentioned, they have an award-winning Tiger pour, and none of their drinks are watered down. We’ve chosen the Legendary Shadow (RM28 / USD6.35) as our recommendation because it’s their signature cocktail. The mix of blackcurrant and pineapple juices infused with rum and gin will ensure you’re a happy camper.

Legends truly exemplifies what you want your favourite pub to be: a place you can sit for hours to chat, eat and drink. The music is mellow and allows for conversation, while the offer of RM10 (USD2.27) Tiger pours between 3-5 pm on weekdays is a draw in itself.

Come for:

  • The excellent catalogue of unwatered-down beer and cocktails.
  • Amazing food that will leave you coming back just to dine.
  • Some of the best thick-cut fries you’ll try – they’re piled to ensure they remain crispy even though they’ve been sitting on your table.

Skip:

  • The nachos. They’re good, but not as exceptional as the rest of their offerrings.
